Family health insurance

Family health insurance is such an important thing to have. For years we were spoiled, my husband had a great job with great benefits and health, dental, vision, and prescription coverage for the whole family (which for us is 6) for only about $50.00 per week. We enjoyed the benefits of our insurance and the freedom to come and go to doctors as we needed to get things checked out along the way. I never realized how lucky we were or how unlucky we were about to become.
My husband injured his back at work and then eventually got terminated. He has had several other jobs, but has not been able to land a job of this same caliber. Unfortunately, he can't find a job that offers him the pay or the benefits that his old job offered. Since then I have tried several other options to getting health care and family health insurance. I have contacted and applied to Medicare and 2 months later my application is still pending, and they can't even tell me how much longer it will take. In the meantime, I myself became very ill and could not stop coughing; I mean it was so bad that I couldn't lay down to sleep without choking to death, even after taking Nyquil. Well, when I made contact with them they offered me a consultation appointment that was 2 ½ weeks away and told me I needed to bring a months worth of pay stubs for my husband and myself, and I also needed to bring my tax return and my id. After the 2 ½ week wait for the eligibility meeting, they told me they would send me a letter in the mail, and then if I were approved I could then call to set up an appointment for my initial exam which had to include a full physical and gynecological exam. I told them forget it. I could have died waiting to see a doctor, fortunately my cough cleared on its own.
Well, needless to say this has been a real downer, I guess it is true that you don't know what you've got until it's gone. I didn't realize how important our health insurance plan was to our family until we lost it. Now I would do anything to have it back again.
